Box Score

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Despite a fourth hat trick in eight games for sophomore Ashley Kellogg, the Lady Monarchs dropped their fourth consecutive game and third in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. Old Dominion (4-4/0-3) fell in an 11-7 decision to the Pride of Hofstra University (5-7/2-2). Senior Kelly Kimener also had a hat trick, adding three goals in the game and junior Jessica Noone had one for the Lady Monarchs.

The first half was back-and-forth the whole way, as Hofstra scored within the first minute of the game on an unassisted score by Lauren Whitcomb, but ODU would answer with Kimener's first coming just 38 seconds later.

Hofstra scored first within the first minute of the game, on an unassisted score by junior Lauren Whitcomb. Old Dominion senior Kelly Kimener would answer with an unassisted score of her own just 38 seconds later to knot it back up at one.

Both teams scored two more in the first 12 minutes of the half, as ODU sophomore attack Ashley Kellogg nailed an unassisted score with 18:19 remaining, tying the game at three apiece. Hofstra followed the goal 19 seconds later with another that would put them on top for good from Stephanie Rice off an assist by Corrine Gandolfi.

The assist on the go-ahead goal would be the second point of the night in what would prove to be a five-point night for Gandolfi, the leading scorer for Hofstra with 29 points this season. One of her three goals came with just six seconds remaining in the first half to set the first half deficit at two, 6-4.

Kellogg would get her hat trick in the first half, scoring twice unassisted and once off an assist from senior Kaelyn Schival.

The Pride would pull away early in the second half, extending the lead to 8-4 with back-to-back goals early in the frame. The two goals were scored by Kelly McGrath and K'Leigh Vanaman, just 19 seconds apart to go up 8-4.

Kimener scored her second goal of the game off a free position shot with 18:46 remaining to get ODU back within three for the final time of the night, but Hofstra would seal the win scoring three of the next five goals. Kimener sealed her second hat trick of the year just moments after returning from a yellow card in the final minute, scoring an unassisted goal with just 24 seconds remaining in the game.

For ODU, junior Jordan McKeon grabbed a career-high four draw controls and junior Erica Erb caused a career-high three turnovers in the game.

Both teams took 26 shots in the game and tied in draw controls as well, 10-10. ODU had an 18-12 edge in groundballs and forced Hofstra into more turnovers, 19 to the Lady Monarchs 14.

Old Dominion travels to Philadelphia for a game against Drexel on Sunday, April 13 at noon. The Dragons dropped William & Mary (6-7/2-1) in an upset today, as they improve to 9-5 overall and 1-3 in the CAA.
