Old Dominion University has had a long line of outstanding wrestlers under the watchful eye of Hall of Fame Coach Pete Robinson and Terrence L. Perdew continues the tradition. He is ODU's last wrestling National Champion.

Perdew established himself as one of the nation's top collegiate wrestlers as he compiled an awesome 47-10-1 record. In 1971 and 1972 he won the Virginia Freestyle Wrestling championship at 125-pounds.

As a junior, Perdew captured the Virginia Collegiate State Wrestling title at 118-pounds, the ODU Thanksgiving Open and the Virginia Free-style title. In 1974, Perdew dominated opponents with an incredible 34-3 record. He capped the season off with the NCAA Division II, 118-pound National Championship.

As a senior Perdew was named ODU's Most Outstanding Wrestler, and the ODU Alumni Association's Male Athlete-of-the-Year. After graduation, he was named to the All-Time Wrestling team at ODU.

The Chesapeake, VA native was a standout at nearby Oscar Smith High School. There he was a two-time Eastern Regional Champion in 1968 and 1969 and two-time State Runner-up those years at 103 pounds. From 1974 to the present he has attended numerous NCAA wrestling championships and coaches clinics. In 1990 his Western Branch High School wresling squad captured the Virginia AAA State Championship. Perdew graduated from Old Dominion University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education. He is the fifth wrestler to be inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame.
