ODU Adds Three Games To 2009 Football Slate

June 30, 2008

Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion University Athletic Director Dr. Jim Jarrett and head football coach Bobby Wilder have announced that the Monarchs have added three additional games to the 2009 schedule.

Two of the additional games will be on the road as the Monarchs will travel to Savannah State on Oct. 24 and to Virginia Military Institute on Nov. 21. ODU will host North Carolina Central University for homecoming on Oct. 3 at Foreman Field.

With the addition of these three games the Monarchs 2009 slate totals eight games thus far, five of which will be played at home. ODU will kickoff the season at home against Chowan on Sept. 5 and travel to Jacksonville on Sept. 19. On Sept. 26 Monmouth will come to Foreman Field, as will Presbyterian on Oct. 10 and Georgetown on Oct. 31.

"We're excited with the eight games we have been able to secure for the 2009 season," said Wilder. "Our goal for the schedule has been to secure a competitive balance of teams that allow our program to grow. We have researched other programs that have started football recently and plan to be aggressive with our choice of opponents. Competing as an I-AA independent in both 2009 and 2010, we want to play a schedule that will allow us to be considered for an at-large bid to the I-AA playoffs. Our goal at Old Dominion is to build a championship program that will compete year in and year out with the best teams in the country at the I-AA level."
