HEMPSTEAD, NY--Old Dominion University's (18-17/9-8) Anthony Shawler fanned a career high tying 13 batters and hit two homers to lead the Monarchs to An 11-6 victory over Hofstra (12-28/1-18) Friday afternoon. In all, ODU hit five homers and pounded out a season high 19 hits in the win.

Hofstra took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but ODU rallied as Shawler and David Burns hit back-to-back solo shots in the second inning, and Bryan Cipolla slammed a solo homer in the third to cut the lead to one at 4-3.

In the fifth ODU tied the game when Cipolla singled home Jimmy Miles. Hofsta re-took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Tom Legregni.

In the seventh inning Anthony Shawler hit his second homer of the day with Bryan Cipolla aboard to give ODU 6-5 lead. David Burns followed with a double and Jake McAloose doubled him home for a 7-5 lead.

ODU added three more runs in the eighth when David Burns hit his second homer Of the day with Max Most and Shawler aboard. ODU's final run came in the top Of the ninth when Max Most grounded out to score Edgar Hernandez from third.

Shawler pitched 7.2 innings, fanning 13 which ties his career high of a year ago. He walked only two for his fourth win of the season. Freshman Kyle Hald pitched The final 1.1 innings, striking out three.

David Burns led ODU with four RBI on the day, while Burns, Cipolla and McAloose each had three hits. Gerard Hall, Jimmy Miles, Shawler, and Most each had two hits. Every starter had atleast one hit on the day for ODU.

The two teams play Saturday at 2 p.m.
