ODU Strength And Conditioning Adds Two New Staff Members

June 27, 2008

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion Athletics has announced the additions of Ryan Martin as the Associate Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Yaw Baidoo as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Martin's primary responsibilities will be overseeing the day-to-day strength and conditioning program for football while Baidoo will assist with the other Monarch and Lady Monarch varsity programs.

Martin most recently served as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for 18 Division I sports at Hofstra University. He directly oversaw all the daily facets of training for football, men's and women's lacrosse, and field hockey. While with Pride, Martin helped develop two NFL draft picks (Willie Colon - Fourth Round; Marques Colston - Seventh Round), along with nine free-agent signings.

From 2001-2004, Martin was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for 21 sports at the Southern Conference's Davidson College. While working with the Wildcats, he was one of six finalists for the 2004 NSCA College Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year Award.

Martin spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and the University of Notre Dame as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2001. With the Colts, he helped supervise and implement flexibility, strength, and conditioning programs for the players, as well as assist with data analysis, testing for performance, and evaluating current scientific research as it pertains to performance enhancement. During his time with the Irish, Martin implemented and supervised programs for football, as well as all 26 of Notre Dame's Olympic varsity sports.

While pursuing his master's degree at Indiana State, Martin worked as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Sycamores, working along side baseball, volleyball, and women's basketball and interned at Northwestern University, working specifically with men's soccer, golf, tennis, and wrestling.

Martin has ties to the Hampton Roads area as he was an intern with the football team at the Apprentice School, coaching the tight ends in a West Coast style offense, as well as assisting with special teams.

Prior to coming to the Hampton Roads region, Martin worked at Acceleration, Indiana as a sports specific trainer, while obtaining his undergraduate degree at Anderson University.

Martin received a B.A. in physical education from Anderson University in 1998 and was awarded a M.S. in exercise science/biomechanics from Indiana State in 2000.

Baidoo joins ODU strength and conditioning from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he served as a graduate assistant working alongside football, as well as men's and women's basketball.

Prior to his stint with the Eagles, Baidoo also interned at Mississippi State, assisting with football, as well as the Bulldog's other Olympic varsity sports, at Georgia State, working along side each of the Panthers' programs, and with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.

Baidoo earned his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State in kinesiology in 2005 and completed his master's degree in exercise science and human performance from Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2007.
